Music

At Dosthill Primary Academy, music plays a vital role in fostering creativity, building self-confidence, and creating a sense of community. Our music curriculum is designed to inspire pupils to explore their musical potential through regular lessons, assemblies, and participation in our school choir. We encourage all students to develop their musical skills while promoting core values such as Diligence, Creativity, and Self-Expression.

Through the Sing Up scheme, pupils engage with a variety of musical genres and styles, progressing in their understanding of rhythm, pitch, and musical composition. All pupils in Year 4 are provided with their own instrument, which they learn through whole-class teaching. Additionally, opportunities are offered for children to receive peripatetic lessons in instruments such as drumming, guitar, keyboard, and woodwind, supported by Entrust.

Performance is a key element of our music curriculum, with pupils given numerous opportunities to showcase their talents. Each year group performs a yearly concert for parents, and regular assemblies provide further opportunities to develop stage presence and confidence. These experiences help pupils cultivate self-expression and teamwork through music.

Aligned with the Discovery Curriculum, music at Dosthill promotes key threads like Creativity, Resilience, and Collaboration. These threads are woven into music lessons, allowing pupils to develop a lifelong appreciation for music and the confidence to perform, both as individuals and as part of an ensemble.
