Year 1 Explore Mark Making and Spirals in Art
In Year 1 Art, children have been developing their understanding of how marks are made on a drawing surface. They discovered that the way they hold a drawing tool and move their bodies can affect the drawings they create. The class studied the outdoor drawings of artist Molly Haslund and imitated her work by drawing large-scale spirals in the outdoor area. This was followed by creating snail drawings in their sketchbooks. Continuing their exploration of spirals, the children applied their drawing skills to make detailed observational drawings of shells.
