Computing

At Dosthill Primary Academy, it is our intention to equip children with the essential computing knowledge and skills needed to explore, express themselves, and, most importantly, stay safe in the digital world. We are committed to delivering high-quality, up-to-date computing lessons through the National Centre for Computing Education’s (NCCE) ‘Teach Computing’ units. These units are aligned with the Primary National Curriculum and provide realistic computing scenarios that help pupils understand how computing fits into the world around them.

Our computing curriculum aims to:

  • Develop pupils' computational thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Ensure every individual feels welcomed and supported in their computing education, embedding Diversity and Inclusion throughout our planning, teaching, and practices.
  • Cater to all learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring that all pupils make progress and feel confident in their digital skills.

A key focus of our curriculum is online safety. We believe that staying safe online is of paramount importance, and online safety is integrated into weekly lessons and discussed during collective worship. We equip our pupils with dependable knowledge of internet risks and safe online behaviours, helping them to navigate the digital world responsibly.

Aligned with our Discovery Curriculum, computing lessons are designed to ignite Curiosity, Challenge, and encourage pupils to engage with the digital world in innovative ways. We provide opportunities for pupils to collaborate, problem-solve, and apply their skills in realistic settings. By embedding these key threads, our computing curriculum ensures that all children, regardless of background, have the tools and understanding to thrive in a digital age.
