EYFS

At Dosthill Primary Academy, our EYFS curriculum is designed to include everything we want a child to experience, learn, and be able to do. It builds on strengths and aims to meet the needs of all children in our setting. We focus on how children learn as well as what they will learn, ensuring that their developmental needs are met in a balanced and nurturing environment. Our curriculum is guided by the Development Matters non-statutory guidance, which supports professional judgement in tracking developmental milestones.

We deliver our curriculum through a combination of adult-led and child-initiated activities that reflect children's interests and needs. Learning is play-based, purposeful, and engaging, providing a fun environment that supports all children, regardless of their starting points, in line with the expectations set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework 2024. The Prime Areas of Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and Physical Development underpin everything we do, providing the foundation for all learning.

The Discovery Curriculum threads, such as Curiosity, Creativity, and Diversity, are woven throughout the EYFS curriculum. We encourage children to explore their world with imagination, reason, and confidence, while developing the skills they need to thrive. By fostering a safe and secure environment, we enable children to build positive relationships and develop their self-regulation. We also value strong communication with parents, as this relationship is vital in supporting each child's growth and development.

“When we give every child the best start in their early years, we give them what they need today. We also set them up with every chance of success tomorrow.”
